Diamond Information

Where do diamonds come from?

Diamond volcanic pipes are huge carrot shaped cones that can range from several feet to hundreds of meters across where they meet the surface of the earth. As the pipe is mined it progressively gets narrower. The pipes are usually tubes where ancient lava has driven up from the core of the earth to the open air, carrying with it diamonds. The pipes are filled with a green colored ore called Kimberlite. You might have to dig almost a tone of thismaterial to find enough diamond to fit onto the end of your pencil. So contrary to what some believe, diamonds are incredibly costly to produce.

The classic diamond pipes are located in South Africa and Australia. The positioning of pipes around the world is proof that the continents were once joined together, and the present oceans are fissures or cracks where the continents drifted apart.

An interesting thing happened from the time of creation. The cone shaped surface of the volcanic diamond pipe flattened out. Eroded by rain, wind and effects of heat and cold to be level with the surrounding land. Raw diamonds were released from the host rock or Kimberlite and began to roll down with the rain into rivers toward the oceans.

Diamonds are one of the heaviest minerals on a level with gold, and since they are the hardest they tend to dig little pockets into the bedrock of a riverbed. Some break free and make their way down toward the oceans. Probably the most famous example is the west coast of Africa where the Orange River empties itself into the Atlantic Ocean. Early European explorers found these on the beaches in 1907.

There are areas of Brazil where the bottom of rivers have diamonds. Best example of this is the Jequitinhonha River near Diamantina. We go further north to India where the famous Kohinoor diamond came from, that was given to Queen Victoria. Interesting here is that there are no volcanic pipes in Brazil or India, so where did these diamonds come from.

Take a map of the world, take the bottom ends of South America and India and place them where they used to be, - Against South Africa on either side. The stones were eroded from the ancient plateau's of South African volcanoes and spilled into rivers that went into the lands of Deccan plateau of India and the ancient rivers of Brazil, before the respective continents wandered away from mother Africa.

Therefore we see two ways of mining diamonds. One is by working down into the carrot shaped pipe and the other is by looking into the ancient riverbed deposits. Bôveri operations source our diamonds in the ancient riverbeds of the oldest continents known as "Alluvial mining" in Africa and Australia.

Diamonds come from a time when the world was united. You give the true diamond to your love and this bond will stand the test of time.

A word here we will mention about synthetic and modified diamonds. They do exist but the cost to produce them is high. They are readily identifiable by modern very advanced equipment. Bôveri diamonds are all natural, direct from the mines. We furthermore provide all certificates of authenticity as well as have our diamonds checked by an independent laboratory. Here you can see the essential nature of buying a diamond from a professional old school company, we understand the difference and we don't buy diamonds from any third party, where mistakes can be made.

What is a diamond?

Diamond is carbon that has bonded together with an atomic structure that has perfect symmetry in every direction. This makes diamond the hardest thing we know of. It is the nearest thing there is to the ultimate in perfection.

As well as being the hardest thing we know. Diamond has the highest degree of light refraction of any naturally occurring substance in the universe, which again is due to its perfect atomic structure. Refraction refers to the ability of the material to let light in, deflect it from one facet or internal mirror across to another facet and then back out to the eye of the beholder to explode in a bouquet of light.

The perfect atomic structure of a diamond makes it one of the clearest substances in the universe as well as one of the best conductors of heat and electricity. A tiny square of diamond placed under a sensitive electrical connection- say a tiny switch in a satellite or UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) ensures that it will never overheat as diamond draws off the heat like no other substance can. Diamonds are to be found in many of NASA's productions. Diamond is impervious to any kind of acid or other corrosion. One of the greatest diamond creations has been sent to NASA cut at the exact precise angles, used for a telescope to Mars.

Diamonds have been counted as strategic minerals like uranium and plutonium, absolutely necessary for modern industry. During the cold war the United States government took steps to ensure that soviet countries would not have supply. The more pure the diamond is the more it is suitable for highly intricate parts of technology.

The human body runs itself by tiny electrical impulses. The third finger in the left hand according to legend has the direct veinous connection to the heart. Love. Light. Energy. Heart. Is it any wonder that diamond is the symbol, and the conductor of love.!.

When a diamond is cut if the angle at the bottom of the diamond is too narrow then lightwill be refracted out the back or sides of the stone giving a dull appearance. If the bottom is cut too flat light dives through the bottom as it would through the bottom of a drinking glass and the stone has no scintillation. One of the most difficult skills is to learn to hit these angles of the bottom facets just right, that is at an average of forty and three quarters degrees. The beauty of physics. Angles are precise; geometrics and mathematics are understood to give what Mother Nature intended - ‘A beautiful diamond'.

Bôveri Cut

Cut refers to how the stone is faceted by the hands of the master cutter of Bôveri as well as the symmetry and the proportions of the facets on the surface of the diamond. The precision of these facets greatly influences the brilliance of the diamond. When our master cuts the facet onto the surface of the diamond to ensure the brilliance and scintillation, the original material is cut away. The more we cut away to enhance the brilliance; the lighter will be the weight. Each of our diamond polishers have more than 18 years of experience.

Other companies cut less of the diamond and aim for a larger size. A diamond cut to weigh more will usually shine less, have less brilliance and wont scintillate. Buyers should be aware that carat weight means nothing if the diamond is flat or heavy and deep. Additionally buyers should be aware that the terminology used by many companies is misleading. The term ‘ideal' meaning in English nothing better, has been declared not appropriate by the leading laboratory in America. Our diamonds come with an independent certificate of authenticity from an independent laboratory of the highest standard. Bôveri refuses to use marketing terms that can be misleading and confusing to the consumer such as ideal, heart, arrow, ice, stars and stripes. There is no evidence that adding extra facets or using fancy terms can make a diamond more brilliant.

Bôveri diamonds are cut and polished to the highest level by our own cutters. We cut a diamond that can catch the eye from the far side of a ballroom. They enchant, radiate light and will make you feel ‘simply beautiful'.

Bôveri Cutting by hand.

Each of our diamonds is cut by hand. Every facet is calculated in size and angle and polished onto the rough stone. Bôveri cutters draw by hand a blue print of how the stone will look and then the hand of our diamond cutter begins. Cutting of each of our 1 Ct stones takes about 9 working days to complete.

Symmetry.

By making the blue print before we cut a diamond we ensure that the diamond is symmetrical. Mother nature designed most things symmetrical.- True simplicity. True perfection. Truly old fashioned.

Polish.

The final quality of the polishing of each facet is crucial to capture the brilliance and drive the light through the diamond. It's like the finest hand polish on the perfect leather of the world's best pair of riding boots.

Bôveri have calculated and compared an immense number of diamonds. We don't add facets onto a diamond simply to be different. The most effective amount of facets placed onto our diamonds is calculated, blue printed and we hand place every one. Additional facets do not necessarily add brilliance.

The other 3 C's

The other 3 C's. Clarity, Color and Carat weight e have no influence over. Their result is dictated by the high standards of the laboratories and valuers that we deal with.

Clarity.

Almost all diamonds have slight imperfections called inclusions. These are like mother natures fingerprints. They directly affect the diamonds beauty and the price. These inclusions are identified under x 10 power magnification. The less inclusions, the cleaner the stone, hence higher clarity. Conversely, the more impurity the lower the clarity.

In price terms, the higher the clarity the higher the price and viza vi. Clarity is seen on the scale from Loupe Clean to I3 (Heavily included). Bôveri 's diamond cutters reject all diamonds that have imperfections visible to the eye.

We reject stones that many other diamond companies accept. We offer only the 6 of the top grades of clarity from a total of 12. Our high standards ensure our diamonds are -

‘Simply more beautiful'.

Furthermore we reject any stone that has; -

  • Laser drill holes.
  • Inclusions visible to the naked eye.
  • The lower 6 clarity grades.
  • Any enhancements or artificial treatment of the diamond are totally unacceptable, except in natural hand cutting and facet polishing.
  • Bôveri diamonds are never heat treated, clarity enhanced, color enhanced by any synthetic, man made or foreign material.
  • Bôveri diamonds are thoroughly checked and authenticated by an independent laboratory of the highest world standards.
  • Bôveri diamonds are inspected by our own diamond cutters and gemologists in our cutting works and after being set into jewelry.
  • Bôveri refuses to use the term clean or flawless. This is because a diamond internationally as an industry standard is graded using x 10 power magnification.

Color

The less the diamond emits any kind of color (Colorless) the higher the color grade; this would denote a D grade. The more the diamond is saturated with color the lower the color grade; this would denote a color grade of Z.

Color tinting in diamond is caused by microscopic impurities in the diamond lattice. Only a trained expert is capable of making a color grading that can affect the value by thousands of dollars.

Our diamond works classify, by comparing the color to an authenticated master stone from the diamond high council in Antwerp-en. Furthermore we authenticate the grading by sending our stones for independent grading from an independent laboratory of the highest international standards.

Bôveri 's higher quality, only offer diamonds from D until I. Of the 23 color grades we only offer the top 6. Bôveri avoids excessive fluorescence. Fluorescence is naturally occurring in diamonds that makes the stone glow under ultra violet light. Some retail lighting can make the stone appear better than it really is. Fluorescence, only in some cases can adversely affect the brilliance of a stone by giving it an oily or purple appearance, like benzine. Bôveri gemologists therefore reject excessive fluorescence that adversely affects the look of the diamond.

Why our Diamonds are the most beautiful.

The 4 C's are only a simplified summary of an incredibly complex atomic structure and tries to quantify how a diamonds atomic lattice reacts with light. Bôveri understand why and our strictest standards ensure our diamonds are enchanting. The best there is.

We cut and polish every diamond by hand. We go further. Bôveri diamonds are direct from the diamond mines and we are not dependent upon being given supply with no choice. We choose the highest quality diamond by hand choosing in the diamond mines our own rough diamonds.

Bôveri sets the highest world standards and we so proudly supply the most beautiful diamonds in the world.

Why to buy only Bôveri Diamonds.

The Bôveri diamond is awarded a special certificate of authenticity and Integrity. Accompanied by a report from an independent diamond laboratory that serves to confirm our gradings and standards.

This is more than just a certificate. It is reassurance for years to come, that you have purchased from the worlds leading Diamond Company. There are two to three other companies in the world that have comparable quality but our diamonds are not like theirs and here is why...

We do not buy diamonds from third and fourth parties we only sell virgin diamonds. We mine, find, sort and select the best. Seventy-two of our men have worked in perfect harmony to mine, cut and polish. Each Bôveri diamond is cut by hand. Each has its individual story and blueprint. A virgin diamond- worth more and asks for less. At Bôveri it's always been exclusively virgin diamonds.

Most important. We are the originators of the understanding that when G-d wanted to make a heavenly currency, diamond was chosen. Unlike the perfect snowflake that no two are alike and each made by the hand of G-d, Our diamonds are a story of love that has a value that goes far beyond anything material. Looking at them is proof and we believe that the Angels treasure them.

This is our promise to you. Welcome to our family.
